Job Objective/Summary:
The Database Administration (DBA) Officer is responsible for managing and maintaining the bank’s database systems to ensure data integrity, security, availability, and optimal performance. This role supports the design, implementation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of databases, ensuring they meet business and regulatory requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of database management systems (DBMS).
- Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with regulatory and internal policies.
- Monitor database performance and implement optimization strategies.
- Perform regular database backups and support disaster recovery planning.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues to ensure system availability.
- Support database development, including query optimization and indexing.
- Manage user access controls and permissions for database security.
- Document database structures, policies, and procedures for audit and operational efficiency.
Job Requirements:
- A good bachelor’s degree/HND, preferably in Computer Sciences/IT or related discipline, plus professional banking certification (CIBN); an MBA and/or other relevant postgraduate or professional qualification will be added advantage.
- 2+ years of experience in database administration, preferably in a financial institution.
- Membership in relevant professional bodies such as the Nigerian Computer Society (NCS) is an advantage.
- Certifications in database management (e.g., Oracle Certified Associate (OCA), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or AWS Database Speciality) are preferred.
- Experience with relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
- Experience with database backup and recovery procedures.
- Experience with database security and access control.
- Experience with cloud-based database solutions like AWS RDS or Azure SQL.
