Their platform has been featured in numerous publications for helping clients operate more transparently, securely, and efficiently.This is a direct-hire position with a mainly remote hybrid schedule (monthly on-site at their HQ in Lakeland, FL).The Role You’ll PlayAs the Lead Node.js Developer, you will serve as both a hands-on technical expert and team leader, guiding a small team of developers while continuing to contribute directly to the codebase. You’ll ensure adherence to high-quality development standards, provide technical direction, and play a key role in modernizing backend systems and services.You’ll work across multiple initiatives, from maintaining and enhancing an existing Node.js/React/MongoDB-based system to driving new greenfield development with GraphQL, Postgres, and SDK work. This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys staying hands-on with modern backend development while mentoring others and shaping the engineering culture.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and mentor a small team of developers in an Agile/Kanban culture, while remaining actively involved in coding and technical design.Oversee development for the company’s acquired product line, ensuring stability and scalability.Participate in full lifecycle development for new features and greenfield initiatives (Node.js, TypeScript, React, GraphQL, PostgreSQL).Maintain and enhance existing systems leveraging Node.js, React, MongoDB, and REST APIs.Work closely with product management and other cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality releases.Participate in prototyping, architecture reviews, and code reviews to uphold engineering best practices.Help shape backend development standards and contribute to ongoing technical evolution.

Background Profile:

The ideal candidate is an experienced Node.js engineer who thrives in both leadership and hands-on roles. You are technically adept, pragmatic, and comfortable guiding others while rolling up your sleeves to solve complex problems. You’ll bring a strong understanding of backend development, data management, and modern API frameworks.

Required Skills & Experience:

6+ years of software development experience with a strong emphasis on Node.js.Proven ability to lead or mentor small teams of developers while remaining hands-on.Proficiency with MongoDB (current environment) and familiarity with PostgreSQL (for future architecture).Experience with TypeScript and modern backend patterns (GraphQL, RESTful APIs, SDKs).Strong collaboration and communication skills across distributed teams.Ability to write and optimize SQL queries.Experience working in agile environments and managing deliverables.Preferred / Nice to Have:Exposure to React for front-end integration.Familiarity with C# is helpful but not required.Prior experience supporting or integrating acquired codebases or legacy applications.
