Job Purpose
- We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead our Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) operations in Sub-Saharan Africa, based in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
- This role will oversee all operational aspects of MPD services, P&L accountability, business development, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of projects while maintaining Weatherford’s high standards of service excellence in the region. Nigerian Nationals are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all MPD operations across Sub-Saharan Africa, with primary focus on Nigeria and surrounding regions.
- Develop and implement operational strategies to enhance service delivery, efficiency, and profitability.
- Ensure compliance with Weatherford’s QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment) policies and procedures.
- Oversee the maintenance and operational readiness of MPD equipment.
- Manage a team of field engineers, technicians, and support staff.
- Collaborate with sales and business development teams to identify new opportunities and support tender preparations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Prepare and manage operational budgets, forecasts, and performance metrics.
- Assume full P&L responsibility for the Product line, ensuring business objectives are achieved and customer expectations are delivered in compliance with external regulatory requirements and internal policies and standards.
- Coordinate with global technical support teams to resolve complex operational challenges.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize operational performance.
- Ensure proper inventory management and logistics for equipment and spare parts.
- Develop and maintain emergency response protocols specific to MPD operations.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, with at least 5 years in MPD operations.
- Previous management experience in a similar role, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- In-depth knowledge of MPD technologies, equipment, and applications.
- Strong understanding of drilling operations and well control principles.
- Experience working with international oil companies (IOCs) and national oil companies (NOCs) in Nigeria.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively in multicultural environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions under pressure.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and relevant industry software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
- Experience with Weatherford MPD systems and equipment.
- Knowledge of local content requirements and regulations in Nigeria.
- Experience with advanced MPD techniques such as Early Kick Detection (EKD) and Automated MPD.
- Familiarity with MPD deepwater equipment and operations.
- Project management certification (PMP or equivalent).
